Geotechnical Analysis of Ranch Road Lake Sand Mine Core Borings
A geotechnical analysis of the Ranch Road Aggregates, LLC upland sand mine was conducted based on approximately two hundred samples from twenty seven core borings taken from the Ranch Road Lake Sand Mine located in Indian River County, Florida. The dominant lithology found in the cores consisted of well sorted clean sand USCS classification SP and a well graded sand classification SW. The texture and composition of most samples was medium to fine quartz sand. The mean grain size for core composite samples ranges from 0.31 to 0.51 mm. Abundant shell fragments were found in many samples that had a size range of fine to coarse sand. The extent of both silty layer and rock rubble within the dominant deposits of clean sand is well documented in the individual cores and in the overall stratigraphic analysis of the Ranch Road Aggregates, LLC sand mines. Appendices to this report contain the statistics for all samples, a list of detailed core logs, plots of grain size distribution and data tables for all samples. Core logs were used to generate fence diagrams to visualize the stratigraphy of the mine location..
