Mid-Level GIS Analyst – Melbourne, FL

Applied Ecology, Inc., a small environmental consulting business with a rapidly expanding footprint, is seeking a highly motivated and energetic GIS Analyst with proven experience to join our growing team. AEI has three offices located in Florida and is a regional leader in geospatial services, water resources, ecological and natural resources, and environmental remediation and contamination services. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys a diversity of project types, ranging from geospatial application development to remote sensing applications.

Candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience working with the ESRI suite of GIS products, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Online, Python, Model Builder, and ArcGIS Enterprise. Familiarity with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures, and other mapping solutions or current equivalent is also preferred. This position is responsible for performing work related to any geospatial project, including managing the workload and monitoring the quality of work products. The ideal candidate should have excellent geospatial analyses skills, including expertise in topology, geodatabase design and implementation, web mapping, and imagery processing from a variety of platforms. Preference will be provided to those that can create innovative solutions, define project requirements, and have solid experience in the acquisition and processing of UAV remote sensing products.

Position Description: Responsibilities & Duties

  • Completes high-level, complex geospatial projects and other GIS support tasks for water resources, ecological, structural assets, coastal resilience, or environmental remediation service lines.  
  • Uses spatial analysis and remote sensing tools to collect and analyze data.  
  • Works in ArcGIS and AutoCAD to design restoration projects, shorelines and other features.  
  • Performs complex statistical data analysis using ArcGIS and related extensions/add-ons, relational databases, and other computer software (MS Access, SQL, R, CAD, statistical software, etc.).  
  • Understands and applies the capabilities of GIS, databases, and other computer programs to solve, present, and display complex spatial and relational data/problems; prepares documents, data reports, and maps. 
  • Implements geoprocessing tools in batch, including leveraging Python for toolset development. 
  • Reviews and quality assures project deliverables, which may include monthly and quarterly reports, geodatabases, web applications, user guides, and other technical documents and deliverables.  
  • Ensures that accurate and complete metadata are developed for all data sets created by GIS staff and that metadata is distributed with data when requested by outside agencies and entities. 
  • Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution in Geography, GIS, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or a closely related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience using the ESRI suite of GIS software including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro and related extensions and relational databases  
  • GIS experience in water resource management, ecological applications, water utilities infrastructure 
  • U.S. citizenship (due to federal contract requirements) 
  • AutoCAD design software experience  
  • A valid Florida Driver’s license and a clean driving record  
  • Able to pass drug test and background check  
  • U.S. Citizenship due to Federal contracting requirements 
  • Remote Pilot Certificate and UAV experience preferred 
  • Graduate degree in related fields 
  • Experience with spatial data management, spatial analysis technologies, process design and modeling, server and web GIS technologies 
  • Experience in water resources modeling (groundwater, hydraulic, hydrodynamic, etc.) 
  • Proficient with the AutoCAD 2- and 3-D design program.  
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Access database development. 
  • Able to organize work, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments with minimum direction. 
  • Able to review reports created by team staff and follow through to complete the product. 
  • Able to research and interpret codes, regulations, standards, legal descriptions, and various government documents. 
  • Must be detail-oriented and take pride in delivering high quality work. 
  • Skilled in the conversion of spatial data into digitized formats utilizing current GIS technologies. 
  • Skilled in researching, compiling, summarizing, and interpreting data and information materials. 
  • Strong technical writing skills and effective verbal communication skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with those encountered in the course of work.
