Applied Ecology, Inc., a small environmental consulting business with a rapidly expanding footprint, is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Senior Environmental Remediation Engineer with proven Federal experience to lead our Remediation Service Line. This position requires a strong background in water resources and environmental engineering, solid project management skills, and experience working with Federal clients.
Qualified candidates must have demonstrated experience and expertise in environmental remediation engineering and project management. The candidate should have a minimum of 12 years of professional experience and a passion for environmental protection and restoration. This position requires a strong background in water resources remediation, design engineering, project management skills, and experience working with federal clients. A candidate with experience in Business Development and demonstrated capabilities at negotiating work is preferred. The position is anticipated to be working in the office, with a portion of the time working in the field.

Position Description: Responsibilities & Duties
- Plan remediation projects that meet clients’ needs and comply with environmental regulations, including budgeting, staff task management, design and sampling plans. Provide options by demonstrating feasibility and considering alternatives
- Design and implement contamination assessments and monitoring plans to evaluate the environmental impact of projects and operations at client facilities.
- Investigate sites that have been contaminated with chemicals, toxic waste, nutrients or other dangerous materials
- Recommend and design environmental remediation treatments to address the remediation criteria and needs.
- Work in the field as needed to gather information and direct field personnel, requiring the ability to work in various weather conditions, walk on uneven terrain, safely operate a company truck, and carry heavy items (> 35 pounds).
- Produce, sign and seal, as needed, detailed technical reports.
- Conduct technical audits and reviews of engineering designs and assessment reports.
- Implement and handle all technical aspects of assessment and remediation projects
- Perform generic and detailed quantitative risk assessments
- Supervise remediation site work including the set up and installation of treatment systems
- Handle the containment and disposal of hazardous materials as needed
- Ensure all parties meet compliance with environmental regulations
- Obtain necessary permits involved in the remediation project
- Train staff on how to use and implement remediation systems
- Compile technical reports, daily logs and soil, water and chemical audits
- Recommend methods to meet compliance requirements and address new regulations.
- Use computer modelling and data analysis tools to assess and forecast environmental outcomes
- Assist with expanding the Environmental Remediation service line.
- Develop proposals and business opportunities to increase the capacity of AEI Environmental Remediation service area.
- Build business relationships with local and federal government clients
- Manage, develop, and follow-through with scopes of work and proposals
- Communicate with various municipality, utility, government clients, subcontractors, and government regulating agencies
- Manage the scope, schedule, and budget across multiple projects – from conceptual studies to full design and construction administration to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Plan and manage project staffing requirements and project performance, and identifies and addresses scope creep, schedule, or quality issues to ensure a successful project.
- Work with clients, customers, and contracting partners to team on project and share work.
- Write workflows, approaches, and innovation designs in response to specific client task requests and general requests for proposals/qualifications.
- Occasionally travel to client sites for project investigations, definition workshops, charrettes and project meetings
- Advocates for design excellence and quality in overall program and all project deliverables; works proactively with federal clients to identify expectations and achieve Very Good to Exceptional CPARS ratings
- Apply practical knowledge of architectural and engineering methods, techniques, and historical project data to ensure project requirements are complete
- Coordinate, appoint and supervise subcontractors
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related water resources discipline; Master’s degree preferred
- ≥12 years of experience in environmental remediation
- A Florida Professional Engineer license required
- Knowledge of the regulatory processes in Florida
- Excellent project management skills
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office products
- Experience with surface water, groundwater, and integrated modeling codes such as HEC-RAS, ICPR, MIKE-SHE, and/or SWMM
- Solid technical writing skills and effective inter-communication skills
- Accountable for their productivity and actions
- HAZWOPPER or other OSHA certification
- Clean driving record
- Ability to pass a federal background check and work on federal DOD facilities.
Desired Qualifications
- 8+ years of related project management and/or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Graduate degree preferred
- Federal experience, including NAVFAC, USACE, or USAF (DoD) experience preferred
- Project management experience specific to Architectural & Engineering (A/E) services
- Experience with AutoCAD, PONDS, ASAD, GEOPAK Drainage, ArcGIS, and/or MicroStation
- LEED accreditation or other accepted “Green Rating System” and sustainable project experience
- Project Management Professional certification (PMP)
