Applied Ecology, Inc. would like to congratulate Dr. Leesa Souto who was recognized by the City of Melbourne for 10 years of dedication to the Indian River Lagoon. Several former and current City Council members recommended her for the award. Mayor Paul Alfrey expressed appreciation for her support and guidance saying, “I could pick up the phone if I had a question about the (Indian River) Lagoon, she was always there to answer.â€
Dr. Souto was extremely appreciative, speaking about the community’s response and the city’s efforts to improve stormwater and wastewater management to improve water quality and address the marine mammal crisis. “It will take all of us to bring our Lagoon back to health,†Dr. Souto commented, “no matter where you live in the city, what you do in your yard makes a difference. We all have a role to play.â€
